Saying that weight is simply a function of what we eat and how we metabolize misses the point that there are over 13 hormones that influence weight and energy storage and those are heavily influenced by things such as medications, stress, sleep, viruses, other illnesses, etc. Similar to blood pressure it does count as a disease or medical condition that needs to be managed long term. When we simplify weight loss we do create a stigma around having obesity that blames the individual. While you were able to successfully lose weight with low carb approach, other people eating cues may have stronger implication for carbohydrates so that approach fails for them. We now know that there in fact genes that govern those cravings. Ultimately, we need to take a more nuanced to weight and help people get the holistic approach they need to get the weight off and keep it off.
